MICHAEL GARRON HOSPITAL STAFF POSITION - BARIATRIC, METABOLIC AND FOREGUT SURGERY

The Division of General Surgery at Michael Garron Hospital is searching for a qualified and dedicated Bariatric, metabolic and foregut MIS surgeon to join our Department of Surgery.

Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a member of the Toronto East Health Network (TEHN), is a vibrant community teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, and serves one of Canada’s most diverse communities. Michael Garron Hospital has 470 beds comprised of acute care, rehabilitation and complex continuing care beds. MGH has a closed intensive care unit and full access to diagnostic imaging (US, CT, MRI). A new state of the art, eight story Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre is scheduled to open in 2022.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed or be eligible for certification in General Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Candidates should have fellowship training and certification in Minimally invasive surgery, with expertise in advanced Bariatric, metabolic and foregut surgery. Candidates will have experience providing comprehensive and multidisciplinary care with expertise in laparoscopic / robotic primary and revisional bariatric surgery, Roux-en-Y and Gastric sleeve surgery, surgical planning, and post-op care management.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in leadership and exceptional interprofessional skills to further the divisional and institutional goals of growth and ongoing success of the bariatric program through collaboration with the Ontario Bariatric Health Network.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals and vision of the Division of General Surgery. An interest in pursuing scholarly activity including clinical and health outcomes research is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching, supervision, and mentorship of graduate, and postgraduate students, and fellows.

The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of General Surgery and participate in the general surgery call schedule. The candidate will be eligible for an appointment to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement. S/he must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in surgical education and academic administrative involvement including participating in committees at the hospital and university level.
